Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald Overview

Bringing together both historical and biographical fiction, Fowler writes a dramatic narrative from the first-person perspective of Zelda Fitzgerald, as the narrative follows Zelda’s life upon her meeting of famous author F. Scott Fitzgerald. The novel spans from the years 1918 to 1948, from the time Zelda is a 17-year-old-girl to the time of her death at 47, as Zelda leaves behind her hometown of Montgomery, Alabama to make a life in both New York and France. Zelda struggles through a tumultuous marriage with Scott as Fowler explores themes on feminism, identity, social class, mental illness, displacement, and love.
