Wildwood Overview
Junot Diaz's 2007 coming-of-age story "Wildwood" tells of its rebellious teenage narrator Lola's attempt to break free from her dying, domineering mother's abuse. Lola attempts to run away to the home of an older boy she met at a Manhattan nightclub. Lola eventually confides in her devoted younger brother Oscar, leading to a final showdown with Lola's mother on the Wildwood boardwalk. "Wildwood" addresses themes such as growing up, the search for a home, family bonds, and secrets.
