The Winter's Tale Overview

The Winter’s Tale by William Shakespeare is a play that follows Leontes, the king of Sicilia. Leontes drives himself mad when he mistakenly accuses his wife, Queen Hermione, and his childhood friend Polixenes, the King of Bohemia, of having an affair and producing an illegitimate child, which is in fact Leontes’ daughter. Hermione dies and Leontes’ son, Mamillius, leaves him to spend many years in mourning. He is eventually reunited with his old friend Polixenes who forgives him and informs him that his son, Florizel, is going to marry Leontes’ daughter, Perdita.
