The Wife Overview
The Wife is a novel by Meg Wolizter. The story follows Joan Castleman, wife of famous novelist Joe Castleman. After Joe is named the recipient of a prestigious international literary prize, Joan decides that she can no longer bear to be in a marriage with her selfish, egoistic husband. For decades, Joan has put aside her own literary ambitions in order to support Joe’s own. The novel explores themes of misogyny, patriarchy, loyalty, love, and ambition.
