The Shack: Where Tragedy Confronts Eternity Overview

William Paul Young’s The Shack: Where Tragedy Meets Eternity represents one man’s attempt to explain the nature of God. Depressed and out of touch with God because of the abduction and murder of his youngest daughter, Mack Phillips received a note asking for a reunion at the shack. Mack was both angered and intrigued by the note that was signed “Papa,” the name by which his wife, Nan, called God. Mack decided to meet this man named Papa at the shack, the place where his daughter was killed, to see what would happen. What he experienced there renewed his faith in God and helped assure him that God, and his daughter, still loved him regardless of the ways he felt he had failed them.
