The Outsider: A Novel Overview

In The Outsider by Stephen King, the socially awkward and fearful Holly Gibney becomes an unlikely hero when she orchestrates a battle between a supernatural creature and a group of people who do not necessarily believe in spirits. Detective Ralph Anderson must rise above his desire to adhere only to physical evidence when Holly begins to show him there is something strange about the murder of a young boy in Flint City while comparing it to similar murders in Dayton, Ohio. Themes in the novel include the suspension of disbelief, the worthlessness of a good man’s reputation, and the steps some take to atone for mistakes.
