The Hunger Games Overview

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a thrilling novel about how North America has been transformed into the country of Panem, which has 12 Districts and is controlled by the Capitol. As punishment for rebellion, each district is required to send one boy and one girl, ages 12-18, to The Hunger Games – a match to the death that results in only one winner. The story follows Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers for the Games in order to save her young sister Prim. Katniss reveals she is an expert hunter and archer and, although she is forced to participate, she uses her skills to rebel against the Hunger Games in a variety of ways.
