The Grasshopper Overview

“The Grasshopper” is a poem by the cavalier poet Richard Lovelace. It was first published in 1649 in a collection entitled Lucasta. This poem was dedicated to “my noble friend, Mr. Charles Cotton,” another poet of Lovelace’s school. The exact time of the poem’s composition is uncertain. The poem uses the fable of the ant and the grasshopper to explore the theme of friendship and acceptance of what one has.
