The Crown (The Selection) Overview

The Crown, by Kiera Cass, is a dystopian-romance written for the young adult audience. The novel is the fifth installment of The Selection series. The Crown is the tale of Eadlyn Shreave, an 18-year-old heir to the throne. When Eadlyn becomes regent after her mother’s heart attack, she feels alone as other concerns take her biological family’s attention. However, her belief begins to change as she realizes that there are people outside of her blood relations who love her for who she is. Once she opens her heart and connects with them, she creates a team that gives her the confidence to move forward as a leader and to find the intersection between love and duty that improves her life in addition to the lives of those around her. Themes related to family, love, society and class, women and power, and freedom and confinement are prevalent in the narrative.
