The Casual Fiasco has a sound that is not easily categorized; listeners often describe it as a mixture of rock and reggae-flecked jam pop. Their music,
written by Read and Reilly, has been influenced by Paul Simon, the Talking Heads, the Police, Dispatch and moe. The band takes
pride in offering quirky lyrics and energetic roots-rock fervor. The Burlington, VT quartet has been touring since 2004, and more extensively since
their early 2005 residency at Nectar's, a mid-sized venue in Burlington that was once home to the popular jam-band Phish; the band played 150
dates in 2005 and 180 dates in 2006.1
The band is on the road in the spring of 2007 and has announced plans for a studio album to be released in September of 07.
The band's beginnings can be traced to St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, where Reilly and Read went to school together. While completing their undergratuate degrees, they began writing songs and playing at small, local venues such as the Tick Tock Inn and the Glass Onion.
The Casual Fiasco has shared bills with bands such as Toots & the Maytals, the North Mississippi Allstars, the Slip, moe, The Disco Biscuits, Tea Leaf Green, Dave Mason, Big Wu,Addison Groove Project andState Radio. Notable venues include the Knitting Factory (New York, NY), the Paradise(Boston, MA) and Higher Ground (South Burlington, VT). The band has appeared at colleges that include University of Vermont, Union College, Hobart-William Smith, Champlain College, St. Lawrence University, Johnson State, Kent State University,UPENN, Dartmouth University, Western Carolina, U Maine, Gordon College, Trinity College (St. Anthony Hall), Princeton University and many more.1
In December of 2005 The Casual Fiasco released the EP Body Over Mind with producer Jack Gauthier (Dispatch, David Grisman). The EP features several songs that have become concert staples for the band, and is slightly more reggae-based than previous work. The disc debuted in the top ten at [Awarestore.com] and as of January 2006 was being played on 250 radio stations throughout the United States. The band's debut album, Prototype, was released in 2004 and features songs such as "Down on Sunday," "Feather," and "Admiral Nelson."1
