The Boyfriends were an indie four-piece musical group from London, England. First coming to prominence in June 2005 after becoming the first band ever to play the newly-christened John Peel Stage at that year's Glastonbury Festival, they have been likened to The Smiths by the British press. This drew interest from Morrissey who, after going to one of their shows, was supposedly so impressed he offered them the supporting slot on his 2006 European tour on the spot. The band split in late 2006, following a tour in support of The Divine Comedy. As of 2007 their record company, Boobytrap, has collapsed and the band's website no longer exists. Boobytrap Records boss "Baz" implied that the band had split due to poor management in an interview with Playlouder.[1] Since the split, Richard Adderley has been busy producing various bands including Luxembourg and the New Royal Family. Richard has also played bass with the New Royal Family, the supergroup founded by David Barnett. Keeping it in the family, David has since been confirmed as new bass player with Luxembourg. Richard, Paddy and David have also been working on music together.
