The Arrest is a novel by Jonathan Lethem. The story takes place in the not-too-distant future, after a mysterious phenomenon has caused all modern technologies to cease functioning. The protagonist, Journeyman, lives in a small agrarian community in Maine. One day, someone from Journeyman’s past arrives, driving a huge, futuristic vehicle, and it soon seems that life in the community may be headed for tension and conflict. The story explores themes of community, alienation, morality, purpose, and adaptation.
