Robert Kilgore Muchamore (born 26th December 1972) is the English author of the children's Spy books, CHERUB series.
Beginning of writing career
Muchamore had his first novel The Recruit published in April of 2004. He worked as a PI for twelve years, where he gained much of the insight he used to write the series. He later left this job and began to write full time in mid-2005. The author later admitted to fans on the official CHERUB forums that he left after a "huge row" with his boss where Muchamore threw a box of antiseptic wipes at him. Fortunately, he missed his boss and only dented the ceiling.[1]
CHERUB
The CHERUB series follows the life of a fictional character James Adams (formerly James Choke), a member of CHERUB, a top-secret division of British Intelligence. The organization recruits children (usually orphans) and trains them as spies. Once they are qualified as agents, they are sent all over the world to bring down criminal organizations, their success being based on the fact that criminals are highly unlikely to suspect that their child's new school friend is hacking into their computer, planting bugs in their house and tracking every move they make. So far Muchamore has written and published eight CHERUB novels (see below) with the next The Sleepwalker, due to be released in early 2008. 2008 will also see the release of the author's mini book Dark Sun for World Book Day. Muchamore is planning to create in total 12 CHERUB books based around James Adams but may extend the series around another character.[2]
CHERUB Books - The Recruit, Class A, Maximum Security, The Killing, Divine Madness, Man vs Beast, The Fall, Mad Dogs , Coming soon...The Sleepwalker
Other Books
Home is the only other book written by Robert Muchamore. It was deemed too violent to be ever published by a Children's publisher and a publisher was never found. It was about child warfare in the jungle. The full text can be found on the official CHERUB forums.[3]
In between writing The Recruit (in which the main charactar james learns of Cherub and becomes a recruit with his partner kerry) and Class A, Muchamore wrote a book called Little Criminals. He posted the first two chapters onto the CHERUB series official forum, to see what his fans thought. Unlike Home, Muchamore has not published the rest of the text on his fan forum because he still holds out some hope that it will be published.
Muchamore is also planning on writing and publishing at least three novels about the beginning of CHERUB entitled Henderson Boys. It is thought the first of these will be released in early 2009. No title for the first book has been given as of yet.
