Red Scrolls of Magic Overview

Cassandra Clare's The Red Scrolls of Magic is the first of a series featuring Shadowhunter Alec Lightwood and warlock Magnus Bane, who are falling in love. They set out on what they plan as a romantic vacation together. Their plans are interrupted when demon situations get out of control and they learn about an uprising of a mysterious group known as The Crimson Hand. Magnus created the group decades earlier as a joke, and people now believe that he is in charge and responsible for their illegal and unethical actions. The situation comes to a head when Magnus and Alec discover the real leader and have to fight their way to survive. The novel's main themes are the relationship between Magnus and Alec, a lack of tolerance, and the importance of love.
