One of Us Is Next, by Karen M. McManus, is the sequel to One of Us is Lying. In this installment, the students at Bayview High are still hungry for gossip. They are ready to play when they are invited by an anonymous person via text message to a Truth or Dare game. Soon afterward, a student is dead. However, there appears to be more to the death than just a prank gone wrong. Themes in the novel include the the need to belong, growing up and becoming independent, the rule of chance, the lure of gossip, overcoming fear, the extreme effects of mobility and technology, and the dangers of seeking revenge.
