Odd One Out Overview

Nic Stone’s young adult novel Odd One Out tells the stories of three different teenagers entwined in a complicated love triangle. Coop, Jupiter, and Rae are best friends. However, Coop likes Jupiter, but Jupiter is gay; Jupiter likes Rae but Rae is straight; while Rae likes both Jupiter and Coop but does not know what to do. As Stone tells the novel first from the perspective of Coop, then Rae, then Jupiter, she immerses the reader in each of the characters’ worlds, wondering who will in the end, be the odd one out. This young adult novel explores the themes of lust and desire, otherness, and non-traditional families.
