Nội Bài International Airport (IATA: HAN, ICAO: VVNB), the biggest airport in northern Vietnam, serves the capital city of Hanoi. The airport is 28 miles (45 km) from the city's downtown. Travel time by taxi is 30 to 45 minutes.

Facilities
The airport is small compared to the other two international airports in Vietnam, but it is newer and more modern. A larger international airport is also planned for Hanoi, for which loans have already been secured.
It has a new 3,800 m paved runway (CAT II - 11R/29L - Opened on August 2006) and an old 3,200 m paved runway (CAT I -11L/29R)
The distance between the two runways at Noi Bai Airport is just 250 m, therefore Noi Bai International Airport has a maximum capacity of 10 million passengers a years in accordance with ICAO safety reagulations.[1]
News
- April 7, 2005: Tiger Airways started 3-weekly flights between Hanoi and Singapore after launching direct route between Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore on April 1, 2005. Tiger Airways became the first budget airline operating in Vietnam.
- October 17, 2005: The low cost carrier AirAsia launched direct route between Hanoi and Bangkok. This is the second no-frills airline serving Vietnam after Tiger Airways.
- September 2, 2007:A Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 landed at Noi Bai International Airport.
In 2006, this airport received approximately 3.5 million passengers and accounts for one third of international departures and arrivals at Vietnam's three international airports.

Transportation
Hanoi city bus number 07 and 17 connect Noi Bai Airport with Hanoi city center. The bus stop is just on the right side of the terminal exit. Traveling by bus costs 5,000 VND (0.3 USD) per person and takes about one hour. Buses run from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Airport taxi costs a fixed 160,000 VND (10 USD) for a sedan, 190,000 (12 USD) for a SUV, and toll charges are included in the price. A taxi to city center takes about 30 minutes. There is also the Airport Minibus, which is 22,000 VND for Vietnamese or 32,000 VND (2.0 USD) for foreigners but only leaves after it is completely filled. Minibuses and taxis park right in from of the airport exit gate. There are 3 companies operating several kinds of taxi/minibus and they are almost the same in price and service.
