Rachel Joyce’s young adult novel Miss Benson’s Beetle tells the story of two women, Margery and Enid, who go on an elaborate quest to find a golden beetle. It is told through third person narration, focusing mainly on Margery’s thoughts and feelings. The majority of the novel takes place in New Caledonia in the year 1950. Joyce tackles, among others, themes of friendship, feminism, and ambition.
