The Minnesota Vixen are a professional women's football team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota that plays in the NWFA. The team has existed since 1999, making it the longest continiously playing women's football team in the United States. The team has been known as the Minnesota Vixens and Minneapolis Vixens prior to being known as the Vixen (note lack of "s"). The team has played games at Augsburg College's Nelson Field and Midway Stadium among other places in the Twin Cities. The team's home field in 2006 and 2007 was Hamline University's Klas Field. The 2008 Home Stadium has not been announced. The Minnesota Vixen™ is the country's longest-operating women’s professional tackle football team. The Minnesota Vixen™ were members of the original 1999 Barnstorming Tour and one of two original teams in the Women’s Professional Football League. The team will celebrate its 10th season in women's tackle football in 2008, a milestone in women’s football history. After being in operation for eight consecutive seasons, Hot Dish Football Inc., d/b/a Minnesota Vixen™ was formed in 2007 with the intent to make the Minnesota Vixen™ player-owned. The Minnesota Vixen joined the National Women's Football Association ("NWFA")(www.womensfootballcentral.com)at the end of their 2007 season. You can read the full press release at the NWFA homepage. The Minnesota Vixen™ are proud to currently have 5 original Barnstorming players on the roster. [1] The Minnesota Vixen™ are committed to providing women of all ages, races, creeds, religions, orientations, sizes and shapes the opportunity to play full tackle football while being positive role models by being active in their local communities and charities. The Minnesota Vixen™ believe that through their outreach efforts they are bringing women's football into the mainstream of women's professional athletics. The Minnesota Vixen™ will be holding tryouts for their 2008 season on Saturday, January 12th and Saturday, January 19th at Edison High School in Minneapolis, MN from 9:00 am to Noon.
