MENTOR / The National Mentoring Partnership, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the national advocate and resource for mentoring. MENTOR works in concert with a nationwide network of mentoring partnerships who, in turn, work with the thousands of direct-service organizations that formally match and oversee the mentor-mentee pairs. Mentoring is a tool for helping children and youth succeed in life. Although nearly 17.6-million young Americans need or want a mentor, only about three million are in formal, high-quality mentoring relationships. That means nearly 15-million young people are still in need today. MENTOR’s mission is to expand the power of mentoring to the millions of young Americans who want or need adult role models. In collaboration with a forum of the nation’s foremost experts on mentoring as well as program leaders nationwide, MENTOR shares information, national standards, and best practices so that the mentoring community can work effectively and efficiently. MENTOR co-founders Geoff Boisi and Ray Chambers each received the Lewis Hine Distinguished Service Award from the National Child Labor Committee (NCLC) for a lifetime of outstanding service to children. Boisi and Chambers are credited with galvanizing the nation to create the youth mentoring movement. Watch a short video of celebrities promoting the need for mentoring.
