In Matchmaking for Beginners by Maddie Dawson, Marnie MacGraw thought she had the perfect life planned out for herself. Twice she was ready to get married and settle down with a husband. Twice her plans changed. Marnie’s life changed drastically when the eccentric Blix Holliday, whom Marnie felt she barely knew, bequeathed Marnie her house. Along with the inheritance came a stipulation that Marnie had to live there for three months before she was allowed to sell the house. Marnie had no idea what she would come to learn about love and acceptance during those short months. Themes in the novel include the suffocating nature of family relationships, the power of the spoken and written word, and the magical ability of love to heal.
