Marcus Fenix is a fictional character in Gears of war. He is the game's protagonist, and is voiced by John DiMaggio.[1][2] In the Gears of War storyline, Fenix leads a group of human soldiers in a war against subterranean foes. Marcus Fenix is the main protagonist in Gears of War. He is first introduced as an inmate, serving a prison sentence for abandoning his military post in order to make a vain attempt to save his father. Prior to the Locust Invasion, Fenix is noted for having a famed military career, during which he played a notable part in the Pendulum Wars. Despite this, Fenix is left for dead in a dilapidated penitentiary, until Dominic Santiago (Dom), his friend and former comrade, saves him in the first act of Gears of War. Fenix is shortly reinstated into the military, and assigned to serve with Delta Squad. During the course of the game, Fenix seeks to find and deploy the resonator, a device that will map, and later allow the light mass bombs to destroy the Locust’s tunnel network.. He becomes Delta’s squad leader after their squad's CO, Lieutenant Kim is killed in action. Fenix spearheads his comrades through the ruins, a derelict factory, and finally an underground mining facility, where they activate the resonator. After the device fails to provide adequate data, he is forced to return to his youth home, where one of his comrades discovers a near-complete map of the Locust Tunnel network. He finally climbs aboard the train carrying the light mass bombs. He defeats General RAAM en route to activating and launching the light mass bombs. The subsequent explosions destroy the Locust forces, and seal a COG victory.
