Marcus is a town in Stevens County, Washington, United States. The population was 117 at the 2000 census.

History

Marcus was officially incorporated on October 18, 1910. The original townsite was submerged beneath the waters of Franklin D. Roosevelt Lake when Grand Coulee Dam was built.

Geography

Marcus is located at 48°39′51″N, 118°3′51″W (48.664206, -118.064179)GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.6 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 117 people, 48 households, and 33 families residing in the town. The population density was 495.3 people per square mile (188.2/km²). There were 52 housing units at an average density of 220.1/sq mi (83.7/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 95.73% White, 0.85% Native American, 0.85% Asian, 0.85% from other races, and 1.71% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.56% of the population. There were 48 households out of which 29.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.3% were married couples living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% were non-families. 20.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.76. In the town the population was spread out with 26.5% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 17.1% from 25 to 44, 32.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 88.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.5 males. The median income for a household in the town was $27,500, and the median income for a family was $31,250. Males had a median income of $30,417 versus $22,500 for females. The per capita income for the town was $10,798. There were 25.0% of families and 28.4% of the population living below the poverty line, including 41.2% of under eighteens and 5.3% of those over 64.
