Lyndon is a city in Osage County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,038 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Osage CountyGR6.
Geography
Lyndon is located at (38.610233, -95.685352)GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.8 square miles (1.9 km²), all of it land.
Demographics
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,038 people, 419 households, and 297 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,387.5 people per square mile (534.4/km²). There were 453 housing units at an average density of 605.5/sq mi (233.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.98% White, 0.48% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 0.77% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.77% of the population. There were 419 households out of which 32.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.5% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.9% were non-families. 24.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 2.91. In the city the population was spread out with 26.0% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.0 males. The median income for a household in the city was $36,250, and the median income for a family was $44,231. Males had a median income of $33,750 versus $19,671 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,968. About 7.8% of families and 10.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.4% of those under age 18 and 14.7% of those age 65 or over.
