Kudos Overview

Rachel Cusk's Kudos is a realist yet unconventional novel, narrated entirely in the first person by Faye, a British novelist. The novel is structured around conversations (or encounters) that Faye has with mostly strangers (including fellow writers, book editors and translators, members of the media, etc.), as she travels across Europe in the high summer from one literary festival to another. The novel is built of the stories that the strangers relate to Faye. The emphasis placed on verbal storytelling throughout the novel draws attention to the importance of narrative in how humans understand themselves in relation to the world around them.
