King Rat Summary: King Rat is a novel by bestselling British author James Clavell. The novel is set in the Japanese-run POW camp at Changi Prison – located in a remote part of Singapore Island – during the last months of the Second World War, and follows the lives of a number of American, English, and Australian prisoners as they fight for survival in the harsh and oppressive environment of the camp. King Rat was James Clavell’s first novel, and is one of the books in the author’s “Asian Saga” which also includes Shogun, Tai-Pan, and Nobel House.
