King's Cage Overview

King’s Cage is the third fantasy installment in Victoria Aveyard’s Red Queen trilogy. Mare Barrow must navigate her imprisonment by the Silver King Maven, a power-hungry tyrant determined to destroy the Red Scarlet Guard. While she plans her escape from Maven and his betrothed, Evangeline, the Scarlet Guard works to overthrow the Silver rule of the kingdom. Mare discovers that her problems are not solved when she escapes and reunites with her friends and family, and she battles alongside Reds and other newbloods to fight against the oppression of her people. The novel explores themes of exploitation, division, shame, family, and identity formation.
