Summary and Analysis
As the film begins, we see a sign saying "You are now in Bedford Falls." Then, we hear people praying for George Bailey, everyone from his friends to his mother to his brother to his children. We see that their prayers are going up to God, and Joseph and God discuss sending down someone for George. Joseph is told to send the clockmaker Clarence even if he is odd. Clarence asks whether the man is sick, but God says, "Worse. He's discouraged." Clarence is told that at 10:45 p.m., this man will be considering giving up his life, and his job is to get to know Bailey and help him realize that his life is worth so much. Clarence asks if he will finally get his wings after 200 years if he does well with George; he is told that he will. They then sit Clarence down to tell him...
