George Andrew Reisner
American Egyptologist who improved excavation methodology. After earning a Harvard University doctorate, Reisner devoted his life to field work.
One of the first archeologists to apply photography to excavation, Reisner carefully recorded finds. Named the Egyptian department curator for the Boston Museum of Fine Art, Reisner excavated the Giza Pyramids. He also surveyed Nubia, carefully mapping the area before the Aswan Dam flooded the site. Reisner's books are considered classics and his techniques greatly influenced archeologists excavating other areas and cultures.
