Fruit of the Drunken Tree Overview
This coming-of-age story centers on the relationship of two young women in Columbia – Chula, who comes from a relatively wealthy family; and Petrona, who does not and who comes to work as a housekeeper and maid for Chula’s mother. Set against the backdrop of the drug wars of the late 1980’s, the narrative explores themes related to the power and value of friendship, to parent-child relationships, and the dangers of keeping secrets.
