Summary and Analysis
Fight Club begins with the Narrator sitting in front of a camera and talking to the audience. The Narrator says that people are always asking him whether he knows Tyler Durden. The scene changes so that we can see Tyler walking around with a gun while the Narrator sits tied to a chair. The Narrator says that the saying, "You always hurt the ones you love," works both ways. He explains that they have front row seats to the demolition committee, and then several square blocks will become rubbish. He suddenly realizes that all of this has to do with Marla Singer. This introduction starts at the end of the film, and the audience will have to wait until the end to understand it. This is a stylistic choice made by the director.
