Everything you need to understand or teach Faithful and Virtuous Night by Louise Glück.
In this book, individual poems function similarly to chapters in a work of prose, in that each poem develops one aspect or another of the collection’s central thematic and/or narrative lines – specifically, its consideration of life as a journey towards death. This sense of through-line combines with allusions to myth to make the suggestion that while several of the poems focus on the life journey of a specific individual, that journey is, in fact, an archetypal or universal experience.
