Fairy Tale: A Novel Overview

Fairy Tale: A Novel is written by Stephen King.  In the fantasy, Charlie Reade promised God he would return the favor if God made his father stop drinking. However, Charlie never expected to become the charming prince in a fairy tale sent to save a damsel in distress. Charlie started his adventure when he befriended Howard Bowditch, an eccentric, elderly man, after Bowditch broke his leg and hip. Charlie learned about the other world from Bowditch and traveled there in an attempt to save Bowditch’s German Shepard, who was dying of old age and suffered severe arthritis. Themes in the novel include the connection between people and animals, coming of age, and the meaning of bravery.
