Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Big Shot Overview

Jeff Kinney's graphic novel, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Big Shot, is a series of diary entries by Greg Heffley, an eighth grader. After everyone at Greg's school becomes incredibly caught up in a day of competitive games, Greg's mother decides Greg needs to experience being part of a team. Greg chooses to play basketball.  His team never comes close to winning because none of the players are talented. However, when an opposing team is short a player, Greg switches teams to fill in. He makes a wild shot and scores a goal. The team wins. For that moment, Greg has the experience of being a hero on a winning team. The novel revolves around the lives of ordinary kids and shares themes such as how being on a team benefits the players and how competing can bring out the best or worst in people.
