Define "Normal" Overview

Define "Normal" is a young adult novel by Julie Anne Peters which chronicles the peer counseling sessions between Antonia Dillon and Jazz Luther, two extremely different girls, one punky and one prissy. Reluctant participants, both young women have problems that they hide from others. Throughout the counseling sessions, Antonia and Jazz learn that appearances are not what they seem and that friendship can be found by just looking past appearances. Mental illness, isolation, and family conflict are some of the problems the girls deal with. Stereotyping based on appearances, truth versus lies, authentic identity, and mother-daughter relationships are major themes throughout the book.
