Dear Justyce Overview

In Nic Stone's Dear Justyce, two Black boys from the same neighborhood in Atlanta grow up to be completely different young men. While Justyce applies to Yale and gets into the prelaw program, Quan joins a gang called the Black Jihad and is arrested for shooting a police officer. The pair strike up a correspondence while Quan is waiting to be sentenced. When Quan writes to Justyce that he is innocent, Justyce believes him, and sets out to find a way to free his childhood friend. The novel explores the nature of gangs, the importance of support, mental health, systemic racism, and the school to prison pipeline.
