Chicago-Kent College of Law, the law school of the Illinois Institute of Technology, is nationally recognized for the scholarship and accomplishments of its faculty and student body. The second oldest law school in the state of Illinois, Chicago-Kent has a history marked by innovation and excellence. Chicago-Kent has always emphasized professional responsibility in the broadest sense, encompassing intellectual discipline, careful analysis, comprehensive research, and sensitivity to the needs of clients and the context in which the law operates. Chicago-Kent was the nation’s first law school to make the computer a vital part of the study of law. Many of the applications of technology in the law school classroom today were pioneered at Chicago-Kent. It is also the only law school in Chicago with a 3 year legal writing program. Located within walking distance of the Sears Tower, currently the tallest building in the U.S., Union Station, some of the largest law firms in the country, as well as important governmental bodies, Chicago-Kent College of Law provides students with the opportunity to explore different job opportunities. The School currently occupies the building at 565 W. Adams St., across the street from the newly constructed USG building. The building offers wireless network access throughout the building, along with electrical plugs in classrooms and libraries. Kent also provides the city of Chicago, with the second highest group of students, who work in the city of Chicago after graduation. Chicago-Kent College of Law has an impressive set of faculty members, who have clerked for Supreme Court Justices, and came to the law school with prior practical work experiences in large law firms around the country. Additionally, students from the Chicago-Kent College of Law come from 49 states, and around the world. Chicago-Kent teaches a standard first year law school curriculum with courses in Torts, Contracts, Criminal Law, Property and Civil Procedure. The school places a heavy emphasis on Legal Research and Writing. Kent's writing curriculum has been used as a model for other programs. Students are well prepared to take the Illinois bar exam, with an 88.5% first time pass rate, which is well above the state average]. Professors at Chicago-kent were responsible for founding and developing the curriculum of Bar Bri, the largest and most popular bar exam review preparation course in the country.

History

The school is founded as the Chicago College of Law in 1888.
Chicago College of Law and the Kent College of Law merge to form the Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1900.
The school received its American Bar Association accreditation in 1936.
Chicago-Kent and the Illinois Institute of Technology merged in 1969.
Landmark three year legal writing program begins in 1978.
The current dean of the law school is Harold Krent (2001-present).
