Catherine Gallagher (born 16 February 1945) is a new historicist literary critic and Victorianist and is currently Professor of English at the University of California, Berkeley. Her most recent book is The Body Economic : Life, Death, and Sensation in Political Economy and the Victorian Novel (2005). She is married to Martin Jay, an Intellectual Historian in the History department at Berkeley.
