Anil's Ghost takes place during the civil war in Sri Lanka in the 1980s and early 1990s. Anil Tissera, a forensic anthropologist originally from Sri Lanka, is sent by a human rights group to study murders happening all over the country. She left Sri Lanka when she was 18 to study medicine in Europe and the United States. In Sri Lanka, she is paired with a Sri Lankan archaeologist named Sarath Diyasena. Together they work to discover the identity of a modern skeleton found in an ancient burial ground. This novel tackles themes such as war, identity, history, and truth.
