An Anonymous Girl Overview

In the novel An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, psychiatrist Dr. Lydia Shields is so desperate to keep her husband, Thomas, that she concocts a scientific study to determine if Thomas will cheat again. Shields lures Jessica “Jess” Farris, an unsuspecting young woman with issues of her own, into being bait for Thomas. Jess learns that her situation is eerily similar to a relationship between Shields and another young woman who was a subject in one of Shields’ studies, a relationship in which the young woman died by suicide. Themes in the novel include the danger of making assumptions, the unreliability of scientific testing when love is involved, and the dangers of shared secrets.
