Aldo Nova (born Aldo Caporuscio on November 13, 1956, in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian guitarist, keyboardist, vocalist and producer, born to Italian immigrant parents Anna Sardelli and Bernardo Caporuscio. Nova gained fame with his debut album in 1981 and subsequent single releases from it, but album sales drastically declined by the mid-1980s even though he continued to be one of the most critically acclaimed guitarists of the era.

Biography

Although he didn't start playing guitar until he was 15, Nova worked obsessively to master guitar and keyboards, soon becoming a hometown hero in the local clubs. His career got started dually by a role as George Harrison in a production of Beatlemania, and a job as an after-hours studio engineer. Signing with Portrait Records, he released an album Aldo Nova, produced by himself, in 1981 which had a two hit singles with "Fantasy" and "Foolin' Yourself". Although his next album, Subject...Aldo Nova had a hit with "Monkey on Your Back," his solo career started to crumble as he found demand as a player and writer for other bands. He worked with Jon Bon Jovi in both the early and late 1980s and produced some early Céline Dion albums. In fact, it is Aldo Nova, and not Richie Sambora we hear playing guitar on Bon Jovi's debut smash hit, "Runaway" (Even though Sambora--an accomplished studio guitarist & performer in his own right--was hired on as a permanent member of Bon Jovi around this time, and it is him we see playing the solo in the song's video.) He helped write and produce parts of Chantal Condor's 1989 album, Chantal. In 1991, he sought the help of Jon Bon Jovi to revive his solo career on his release Blood on the Bricks, but it still only managed to chart at #124. He is now a songwriter, living in Saint-Lazare, Quebec. Recent hits include the 2003 billboard number one single"this is the night" (co-written with Chris Braide) and performed by American Idol star Clay Aiken.
