Albion is a town in Whitman County, Washington, United States. The population was 616 at the 2000 census. In the 2004 US presidential election, the precinct containing Albion and surrounding unincorporated areas cast 54.15% of its vote for Republican George W. Bush[1].

History

Albion was officially incorporated on March 4, 1910.

Geography

Albion is located at 46°47′33″N, 117°15′2″W (46.792412, -117.250513)GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR2 of 2005, there were 632 people, 274 households, and 166 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,663.4 people per square mile (642.8/km²). There were 315 housing units at an average density of 850.6/sq mi (328.7/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 93.51% White, 0.16% African American, 0.49% Native American, 0.65% Asian, 1.46% Pacific Islander, 1.79% from other races, and 1.95% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.25% of the population. There were 274 households out of which 26.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% were married couples living together, 6.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.4% were non-families. 28.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.25 and the average family size was 2.81. In the town the population was spread out with 21.8% under the age of 18, 12.3% from 18 to 24, 33.9% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 94.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males. The median income for a household in the town was $40,179, and the median income for a family was $45,893. Males had a median income of $28,250 versus $23,828 for females. The per capita income for the town was $19,567. About 11.7% of families and 15.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 32.8% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
